About Us

RĂ©ans, Armagnac, 32 Gers, France
Our objective is to promote friendship between women of all nationalities living in Gascony, SW France, to share our interests and to offer help when needed. The Club started in 2008, with twenty English ladies living in Gascony, using a foreign language and experiencing a new life. Since then, several different groups have been added and our membership has grown into the hundreds, with new ladies moving to the area and ladies who have lived here a while, who have discovered us, who want to make new acquaintances and discover new areas of interest. Today we have eleven nationalities, and our speaking/working language is English. The GLC meets on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding July and August.Every member receives an email each month, giving the name of the restaurant, the chosen, menu and a booking form. In 2014, we became a non-profit making Association, known as Ladies Lunch Club de l’Armagnac and was re-named in 2019 to Gascogne Ladies Club. Our annual subscription fee of 10 € is payable in January each year. Each member of the Club may participate in some or all of our various groups

LATEST POST FROM MARGARETHA

Dear Ladies

Another month has passed and we are standing on the threshold of spring. Or rather, I sincerely hope that the weather is on the point of improving as I have just about had it with all this rain. At home, our black, grey and coloured horses have now all turned a uniform sludge-brown, the colour of the mud they take such pleasure in rolling in, several times a day.

Last month, I spent a fair part of the month in South Africa, visiting my father whom I had not seen for two years. He is turning 80 next year, so the time I have to spend with him is running out. Admittedly, I really should not be complaining about the weather, as it was mid-summer in South-Africa in February, but I did get back here in time for the snow and the very, very cold week that preceded it.

As soon as I got back, the committee met to formulate a policy regarding our online presence: our Facebook page, our Facebook group, our website and blog. We took on board that you would rather not see too many adverts on your timeline, so we decided that the Facebook group, a members-only zone, will feature no commercial adverts whatsoever. All commercial adverts will now appear on our Facebook page only.

Janet, our secretary, will oversee these changes and she will be helped by Denise, who will look after our online presence and by Kathy who will be in charge of collecting useful information. We are hoping to make the activities of the various subgroups more accessible to all members of the club, whether they are members of the individual subgroups or not. We will, therefore, be meeting with the leaders of the subgroups in the not too distant future.

We also talked about clarifying and simplifying the unique identity of the LLC, by choosing specific colours for the club, having a new logo for the club created professionally and by designing new visiting cards and name badges featuring our new colours and logo. Any input from members would be very welcome

We have spoken to new members (and to several longterm members too) to confirm the need for a more streamlined approach to integrating new members into the club and to introduce them to the club's activities. I would be the first to admit that it can be intimidating to walk into a room full of women I have never me. We thought it would be useful to have someone in charge welcoming new members as they arrive and introducing them to other members who may have similar interests or live nearby to them. This person will also discuss the various subgroups with new members and help them access the subgroups they may be interested in joining. I have discussed this task with Ann Purnell and I am very grateful to report that she is happy to take on this responsibility.

As always there was a whole bunch of official matters to discuss at the committee meeting, involving an ever-more-astonishing amount of red tape - I definitely do not intend to bore you with that. Suffice to say everything on that front is going more or less according to plan, even though it does seem to take forever.

Ladies, we are running a bit low on prizes for the raffle and we would hugely appreciate if you could send anything suitable our way. We use the money we make to pay for extras to make this year's Summer Supper extra special, so it is all for a good cause. By the way, the Summer Supper this year will most likely be on Saturday the 7th of July, although this still has to be confirmed.

I wish you all a splendid spring season and as usual, we welcome any comments or questions that you may have. Please address these to Janet, on lunchclubgascogne@gmail.com
