About Us

Réans, Armagnac, 32 Gers, France
Our objective is to promote friendship between women of all nationalities living in Gascony, SW France, to share our interests and to offer help when needed. The Club started in 2008, with twenty English ladies living in Gascony, using a foreign language and experiencing a new life. Since then, several different groups have been added and our membership has grown into the hundreds, with new ladies moving to the area and ladies who have lived here a while, who have discovered us, who want to make new acquaintances and discover new areas of interest. Today we have eleven nationalities, and our speaking/working language is English. The GLC meets on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding July and August.Every member receives an email each month, giving the name of the restaurant, the chosen, menu and a booking form. In 2014, we became a non-profit making Association, known as Ladies Lunch Club de l’Armagnac and was re-named in 2019 to Gascogne Ladies Club. Our annual subscription fee of 10 € is payable in January each year. Each member of the Club may participate in some or all of our various groups

Book Club for May 2018

Dear All

The May Book club is at 2:30 at Pam Savage's house.

The book for May is:

The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox
by Maggie O'Farrell

The June book will be a book of your choice on France. If you are interested in Books why not come an join us (even if you have not read this on the book).
Please leave a comment if you want to attend or  want more information or contact

About The May Book:
Edinburgh in the 1930s. The Lennox family is having trouble with its youngest daughter. Esme is outspoken, unconventional, and repeatedly embarrasses them in polite society. Something will have to be done.
Years later, a young woman named Iris Lockhart receives a letter informing her that she has a great-aunt in a psychiatric unit who is about to be released.
Iris has never heard of Esme Lennox and the one person who should know more, her grandmother Kitty, seems unable to answer Iris's questions. What could Esme have done to warrant a lifetime in an institution? And how is it possible for a person to be so completely erased from a family's history?
Hope you all enjoy it!

Book Club Good Reads April 2018

These two books are the latest recommended 'good reads' from the LLC Book Club.

Runaway

At the centre of Runaway are three stories connected into one marvellously rich, long narrative, about Juliet - who escapes from teaching at a girls' school into a wild and passionate love match; then returns to the home of her parents, whose life and curious marriage she finally begins to examine; while in the third part of her story, her vanished child turns up caught in the grip of a religious cult. The whole picture emerges only when all the pieces of the jigsaw are finally in place. The runaway of the disturbing title story is Carla, a congenital 'bolter', who has neighbourly fantasies that take on a frightening afterlife...Elsewhere, a stagestruck girl finds life is more Shakespearean than even she imagines; while Tessa, a young country woman with strange powers cannot foresee what will happen if she makes off with a plausible charmer. Munro's stories unravel layers of the past, and different versions of the truth: her characters learn that if you look too closely at anything - the past, the truth - it may crumble. Runaway is about the power and betrayals, and twists, of love, about lost children, lost chances. There is pain and desolation beneath the surface, like a needle in the heart, which makes them powerful and compelling. Munro is a magician with words, but also with layers of life and emotion.

The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox

Edinburgh in the 1930s. The Lennox family is having trouble with its youngest daughter. Esme is outspoken, unconventional, and repeatedly embarrasses them in polite society. Something will have to be done.

Enjoy!!

English Theatre - May 2018

The English Theatre Company are delighted to invite you to a performance of

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead
by Tom Stoppard

Tom Stoppard’s timeless comedy is a fabulously inventive tale about two bewildered characters who are childhood friends of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. The play focuses on their misadventures as they drift in and out of Shakespeare’s play. They are a blend of Laurel and Hardy and Morecambe and Wise who sometimes forget who they are. Rosencrantz is amiable, simple-minded and takes things at face value. Guildenstern is a thinker, a brainy clever-clogs who worries about consequences. Together they get up to all kinds of antics without ever really knowing what’s going on around them.
