About Us

My photo
Réans, Armagnac, 32 Gers, France
Our objective is to promote friendship between women of all nationalities living in Gascony, SW France, to share our interests and to offer help when needed. The Club started in 2008, with twenty English ladies living in Gascony, using a foreign language and experiencing a new life. Since then, several different groups have been added and our membership has grown into the hundreds, with new ladies moving to the area and ladies who have lived here a while, who have discovered us, who want to make new acquaintances and discover new areas of interest. Today we have eleven nationalities, and our speaking/working language is English. The GLC meets on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding July and August.Every member receives an email each month, giving the name of the restaurant, the chosen, menu and a booking form. In 2014, we became a non-profit making Association, known as Ladies Lunch Club de l’Armagnac and was re-named in 2019 to Gascogne Ladies Club. Our annual subscription fee of 10 € is payable in January each year. Each member of the Club may participate in some or all of our various groups

Bookclub meeting September 2014 and outlook on October, November and December choices

Our August meeting was an exchange of members current book titles and reading experiences as well as their recommendations.  We had a really nice afternoon  talking about the books we had been reading which were all fairly varied.

What's next?
The September meeting is to take place on (changed to a) Wednesday 17th at Pam’s, 2.30 when we will discuss the book by

Donna Tartt 'Goldfinch'.
 The Goldfinch

"'The Goldfinch' is a novel of shocking narrative energy and power. It combines unforgettably vivid characters, mesmerizing language, and breathtaking suspense, while plumbing with a philosopher's calm the deepest mysteries of love, identity, and art. It's a beautiful, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate."

Pam gave us 3 books to choose from for the
Wednesday 15th October read and we have selected

Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

"Alaska, 1920: a brutal place to homestead, and especially tough for recent arrivals Jack and Mabel. Childless, they are drifting apart—he breaking under the weight of the work of the farm; she crumbling from loneliness and despair. In a moment of levity during the season's first snowfall, they build a child out of snow."

I suggested we have a theme for November (Thursday 20th )and I was asked to choose one:
so the November book you choose should be about Queens.
It can be anything that relates to a Queen

a biography, fiction relating to a Queen, Priscilla Queen, bees – literally anything that takes your fancy.

We also choose a book for December  (Thursday 18th December) which is (the modern classic)
Babette’s Feast by Karen Blixen
a short, relevant, fun read for pre-Christmas.

Look forward to an Indian summer! Jackie x
