About Us

My photo
Réans, Armagnac, 32 Gers, France
Our objective is to promote friendship between women of all nationalities living in Gascony, SW France, to share our interests and to offer help when needed. The Club started in 2008, with twenty English ladies living in Gascony, using a foreign language and experiencing a new life. Since then, several different groups have been added and our membership has grown into the hundreds, with new ladies moving to the area and ladies who have lived here a while, who have discovered us, who want to make new acquaintances and discover new areas of interest. Today we have eleven nationalities, and our speaking/working language is English. The GLC meets on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding July and August.Every member receives an email each month, giving the name of the restaurant, the chosen, menu and a booking form. In 2014, we became a non-profit making Association, known as Ladies Lunch Club de l’Armagnac and was re-named in 2019 to Gascogne Ladies Club. Our annual subscription fee of 10 € is payable in January each year. Each member of the Club may participate in some or all of our various groups

Caliceo trip with LLC Ladies to Pau - suggestion

The Caliceo trip was again cancelled due to reduced numbers, illness and absence being the main factors.

Because of continued interest I propose to try for the third time to organise a group booking and this will essentially be as before – a 1400-1600 session with full use of the spa facilities with an optional aquagym session at 1500.

See http://www.caliceo.com/pau/

and the dates suggested are
Friday 19th or Tuesday 23rd April.

The entry cost is 14€ per person, reducing to 12€ if more than 15 people attend.

There will of course be car share costs to add to this and a list will be available at the lunch on 9th April for you to add your name to if you wish to go and whether you are willing to drive.

Bookclub summary of March 2013 - What Am I Doing Here, Bruce Chatwin

For a collection of short stories Bruce Chatwin’s

 What Am I Doing Here

certainly provoked some good discussion.
He writes about his fascinating travels and people he met, in his rather staccato but eloquent style,  which are beautifully described and often humorous.

There were mixed opinions of this book from “thoroughly enjoyed” to “good in places” and one story “really pissed her off”!!

Interestingly, Pam had met his widow Elizabeth, in their beautiful home in Henley, which was full of treasures from his travels.

The stories he tells were unusual, weird and wonderful such as the wolf boy in India, looking for the Yeti in Nepal and following Mrs Ghandi on her political bandwagon.

This is a personal collection by a uniquely gifted writer who was facing death and wanted to share his fascinating experiences.
Most of us , if we hadn’t already, would like to read more of his travel books.

Next LLC bookclub meeting will be

to discuss the book by

Especially for Jane Austen fans very interesting: Pemberley, Jane Austen fans will recall, is the large Derbyshire estate owned by Fitzwilliam Darcy, who weds Elizabeth Bennet at the end of “Pride and Prejudice,” and in “Death Comes to Pemberley,” P. D. James’s surprising new sequel to that novel, it becomes the scene of a murder.

See here some links about the author Bruce Chatwin and his life  and literature.

In this text, Bruce Chatwin writes of his father, of his friend Howard Hodgkin, and of his talks with Andre Malraux and Nadezhda Mandelstram.
He also follows unholy grails on his travels, such as the rumour of a "wolf-boy" in India, or the idea of looking for a Yeti.

Book Club of the Ladies Lunch Club meets generally on the

3rd Thursday of each month

If you would like to join and for more information about any of the above or our next meeting and venue, please contact:
