About Us

My photo
Réans, Armagnac, 32 Gers, France
Our objective is to promote friendship between women of all nationalities living in Gascony, SW France, to share our interests and to offer help when needed. The Club started in 2008, with twenty English ladies living in Gascony, using a foreign language and experiencing a new life. Since then, several different groups have been added and our membership has grown into the hundreds, with new ladies moving to the area and ladies who have lived here a while, who have discovered us, who want to make new acquaintances and discover new areas of interest. Today we have eleven nationalities, and our speaking/working language is English. The GLC meets on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding July and August.Every member receives an email each month, giving the name of the restaurant, the chosen, menu and a booking form. In 2014, we became a non-profit making Association, known as Ladies Lunch Club de l’Armagnac and was re-named in 2019 to Gascogne Ladies Club. Our annual subscription fee of 10 € is payable in January each year. Each member of the Club may participate in some or all of our various groups

Search for participants for Christmas concerts 2015

Hello LLC members,

I - Carole Clark - know it is only August but just to give you advance notice of our aims for our traditional Christmas concerts so that you can add them to you diary..

I am delighted to tell you Riene and Stephen will be helping us again this year and we shall commence rehearsals on

Tuesday 1st September, at 2.30pm in the hall at Tasque as normal, and
each Tuesday thereafter until the concerts, which are planned for

11th December at Tasque and
13th December in Plaisance.

There has been a request for a further concert but I shall discuss that with everyone at an appropriate time.

Stephen, Riene and I have agreed upon a programme of traditional English and French songs, some old favourites and some new. I shall be putting together a song portfolio for everyone as I did last year and there will be a small cost for that for paper, ink etc.

I do hope that you are able to join with us again this year and if you know anyone who would like to come along too, that would be great.

Bookclub meeting June 2015

LLC Bookclub - What's next?
Looking forward to meeting you all on our bookclub of Thursday June 18th meeting 14.30h  for Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
Bel Canto

In an unnamed South American country, a world-renowned soprano sings at a birthday party in honor of a visiting Japanese industrial titan. His hosts hope that Mr. Hosokawa can be persuaded to build a factory in their Third World backwater. Alas, in the opening sequence, just as the accompanist kisses the soprano, a ragtag band of 18 terrorists enters the vice-presidential mansion through the air conditioning ducts. Their quarry is the president, who has unfortunately stayed home to watch a favorite soap opera. And thus, from the beginning, things go awry.

Among the hostages are not only Hosokawa and Roxane Coss, the American soprano, but an assortment of Russian, Italian, and French diplomatic types. Reuben Iglesias, the diminutive and gracious vice president, quickly gets sideways of the kidnappers, who have no interest in him whatsoever. Meanwhile, a Swiss Red Cross negotiator named Joachim Messner is roped into service while vacationing. He comes and goes, wrangling over terms and demands, and the days stretch into weeks, the weeks into months.

With the omniscience of magic realism, Ann Patchett flits in and out of the hearts and psyches of hostage and terrorist alike, and in doing so reveals a profoundshared humanity. Her voice is suitably lyrical,
melodic, full of warmth and compassion.

The May book was The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka and depicted the lives of Japanese 'picture brides' coming to California from Japan in the early 1900s.

The novel is narrated in the 1st person plural from the point of view of the many girls and women who made the journey. A fascinating account, it was a subject on which many of the book group had little knowledge and made for a very interesting discussion. Themes in the book are still relevant today such as war and the rights of citizens and immigrant assimilation into society.

Don't forget July 16th meeting:
