We have pleasure in inviting you to our next lunch, which will be at one of our well established and favourite restaurants.  We are going  back to

Please find below the menu for €19, which includes wine but does not include tea or coffee.

The cost will be €19.  Please can you book by Thursday 3 October.  We are not expecting to reach a cap, but it’s always better to book in early and it helps us to make sure that the venue can accommodate us. I need to give the restaurant final numbers on Friday 4 October, so it will be difficult to make changes after that date.

As usual I will send out a list of members who are attending before the deadline.  If you have any problems with the form please reply to this email (or use the address below) and I will manually add you to the list

Please note coffee is not included.  if you want tea or coffee after the meal you will need to pay the venue When you order it.

The Christmas lunch will be on 10 December at le Salle de fêtes, Réans.  We have arranged a special meal, which will be prepared by two of our members (Dagmar & Michelle).  To add to the festive spirit we will hold an internal marché de Noel.  More information to follow, but if you would like to sell something at the event please contact Carol Scott, who has kindly agreed to coordinate the marché de Noel.  Artists are also invited to bring a painting (and easel) to display.   For further information please reply to this email.

This is a brief summary of some of the news events that we shared at the lunch this week.

Funeral of Joop Spelthuis.  The husband of Marloes 

We are sad to inform you that the husband of Marloes Spelthuis passed away this week.  The church service will be at Panjas at 10:00 on Friday 13th September.  Afterwards you are welcome to join Marloes at the Gounesse Atelier for a glass of wine.   Please see the entry on the GLC members only face book page for further details.

Chris Mundy vide Maison. 

You are all welcome to a Vide Maison on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 September from 10:00 to 18:00 at Chris Munday’s home. She is selling a lot of the contents of her home, including DIY and garden tools.    If anyone can't come on those days they could ring her on 05 62 09 16 39 to arrange a more convenient time.  Please see your email for address and directions.

La Chrysalide Small market for artists and artisans. Sunday 23 November at the Salle de Fête Aignan.  The Chrysalide art group will be holding a market in which local artists and artisans can sell items.  This is a great way of giving art based gifts for Christmas.   If you are an artist or artisan and would like a stall please let Janet Jones know. 

Bloopers.  Sale of used clothes for charity.  The sale will take place on Sunday 3 November from 10 to 15h.  At the Salle de Fetes, Tillac.  If you have any clothes (New, nearly New and in good condition) that you would like to donate please contest julesbuckingham@hotmail.com or letty.gaze@gmail.com for drop off details.

Walk August 2019

Dear Walkers

Our next walk will take place in the pretty hilltop village of Lavardens dominated by its Chateau and church on 

Friday 9 August starting at 10.30 am

Lavardens is situated off the D930 Condom/Auch main road.  It is a moderate circular walk of 

10 kms (maximum 3h) with a variant of 5 kms (about 1.5h).  The walk takes us out into the countryside in amongst the sunflowers with excellent views of Lavardens for much of the walk which means a few hills! We will pass ancient twin mills, the old Chapel of Saint Marie in amongst the vines and the old lavoir before returning to the village.

Re-walk - Montesquiou - 

Wednesday 14 August starting at 10.30 am

We will walk the variant of 4.5 kms - a circular easy walk which starts in the pretty village of Montesquiou.  We walk up the High Street through the village onto part of the Compostello St Jacques which we re-join later on in the walk.  There are some good views and we pass the old lavoir en route.

August Picnic

Dear Ladies

We hope that you are enjoying the slightly cooler weather. 

Invitation to summer picnic on

Tuesday 13 August 

at Château de Bascous (near to Eauze)

We are delighted to invite you to our annual  summer picnic on Tuesday 13th August at Chateau de Bascous.  This is a wonderful courtyard setting and the perfect location for a picnic with lawns and a tent allowing us to eat, drink and chat in the leafy shade, it is surrounded by vines and open countryside to take an afternoon stole or if you feel more energetic we will have a game of pétanque.  A perfect chance for us all to spend a relaxing afternoon together.  The picnic area is behind the Marie at BASCOUS. 

Everyone who attended last year really enjoyed the event and we hope that it will be as successful this year.  You can bring as many guests as you like and there is a play area for children. 

We have arranged for tables and chairs, which will be set up in the large tented  area, so we can meet even if the weather is less-favourable.

The picnic will be “bring and share” style, but the way that you want to organize the food is completely up to you.  Our recommendation is that everyone brings their preferred main plate (eg basic salad /protein) with the food that you and your party want to eat, plus a large plate of something for sharing (eg pre-dinner nibbles, side salad, pie, quiche, desert). 

You may want to organise yourselves into groups with your guests / friend and work out the picnic that you will bring between yourselves .  Others may want to bring there own picnic and not share.  We want to keep this as flexible, free and relaxed as possible to meet your needs, but hope that you want to join in with the idea of conviviality and sharing. 

Please also bring your own cutlery, plates, glasses etc. So that you have all that you need for a delicious picnic. 

Gascogne Ladies Club will be subsidizing the event by providing the venue (tables, chairs and tent), table coverings, wine (it will be better quality than last year), soft drinks, Bread and cheese.  

We would like to invite you all to a pétanque challenge.  Please bring your own sets of boules if you have them. 

This event is completely GRATUIT and is open to you, your partners and guests. There is no restriction on numbers – you just need to provide sufficient food for your party and a bit extra to share.  

The picnic will start at 12:00 and will continue into the afternoon.

July 2019 lunch

We are delighted to invite you to a very special summer 

BBQ lunch

 on Thursday 18th July

 at Château de Buros 

near Gabarret

This is a favourite venue and they have offered us a fantastic menu.  We hope that will be able to spend a leisurely and convivial afternoon together in the shade of the Chateau grounds.  We also have the option of being inside should the weather not co-operate.  

Our hosts, Angélique and Marijn de Wit, have created a fantastic menu with a mixture of BBQ foods (meat, fish and vegetables), sauces, salads as well as a choice of desserts.  The BBQ is open to partners and guests.  Please use the form in your email to make the reservation for yourself and your guests. You only need one form to make your reservation.

Booking-in commences from 12:00 and will cost €20 for members and €25 for each guest.

Reserve your place now.  The cost is €20 for members and €25 for each guest.  Wine is not included in this price but will be available to purchase. 

The BBQ is open to partners and guests.  Please book early as numbers will be capped at 80.  Once the cap is reached additional names will be added to the waiting list.  You are welcome to bring house guests with you if someone is visiting.  In the event that we are over subscribed with a lot of guests, we may need to ask you to restrict guests in order to ensure that all members (plus 1 guest) can attend.  We hope that it won’t be necessary to implement this. Please bring your cheque for €20 (members) and €25 (each guest) made payable to “Ladies Lunch Club de l’Armagnac” or cash in an envelope marked with your name and the number of guests.  

Deadline for booking:   The deadline for booking is Thursday 4th July (or sooner if the cap is reached).  But please don’t wait for this date as we expect that this event will get booked up very quickly.  Numbers will be accepted after this date (by email) if we still have places.  I will advise on the status when I send out the reminder email and list of responders.  Please note, that we will need to charge for any cancellations received on or after Monday 15th July (within 72 hours of the lunch).

Book now to avoid disappointment: Please can you submit your reservation as soon as possible. Early booking will ensure that you have a place and avoid disappointment.  If you have problems with the form or think that it has not worked or prefer to send an email, please respond to this by email indicating how many guests you would like to register.  In this case, I will manually enter your wishes.  I will send out the reminder email and list of responses next week.  

The LLC Committee look forward to welcoming you to this event and we are all keeping our fingers crossed for a rain-free lunch with you, your partners and guests. 

Keep the date free: Extra Special Summer Picnic on Tuesday 13th August at Chateau de Bascous (near to Eauze).  This will be an “bring and share picnic”, in which you bring something for 6-8 people (eg a savoury salad, quiche, etc  or a dessert).  This will be free and will be open to as many guests as you would like to bring.  LLC will be sponsoring the venue, wine and some food.

Astrid Florentinus 

We would like to let you know that Astrid Florentinus has passed away on 16 June.  She was a long member of our Club, and was an active part of Talking Shop.  She was well known for her warm hearted stories about buying and selling antique furniture.  She was born in the Dutch Indies, lived to the Netherlands and lived for many years in France.  She will be remembered by many of our members, but her Dutch friends will never forget her lessons in Indonesian cooking and keep the finest of memories of this strong and gentle woman.  She left for Holland 2 years ago and has been buried in Holland   We all wish her family strength and love.
